I am retired from the movie industry. I was a props supplier (automobiles, trucks, emergency vehicles)

Trivia: The movie was filmed in the desert area surrounding Lancaster/Palmdale, California and not in New Mexico. The budget was repeatedly slashed and the automobiles appearing in the film were all rental cars. Note that the 1953 Ford Crestline first shown as a New Mexico State Patrol cars is a deluxe car equipped with an automatic transmission. The same exact car with different paint is used as a representation of a Los Angeles Police Unit. Both agencies in fact did use the Ford automobile in 1953. The New Mexico State Police however used the low line "Mainline" model and they did not use 4-door-sedans but what were referred to as 2-door club sedans. The LAPD also used the 1953 Ford, but, theirs again were the base or stripped "Mainline" model.

Production Goof: When the damaged trailer belonging to the Ellinson family is first discovered, the car which supposedly towed the car to the location (a 1953 Mercury Monterey Station Wagon) obviously is new and has no trailer hitch.

Production Goof: In one of the scenes in the Police Station where things are being discussed, note the shadow that hits the top of the picture as a technicians hand momentarily passes in front of a klieg light.
